Financial Orbit wrap 13/10/14

Five sentences or graphics which sum up the Financial Orbit output over the last 24 hours across the website, twitter account and anything else thought about...

1. Some big buybacks...and a bit of earnings benefit too:

2. I liked this in the Financial Times about the realities of China-Russia relations:

3. For my second Yahoo Finance Contributors article (link here) I focus on this interesting chart:

4. Interesting IPO update via Fast FT :

'Luxury shoemaker Jimmy Choo has narrowed downwards the price range for its initial public offering to 140p-160p a share, after appetite for the listing weakened in the wake of several poor deals...IPOs by Zalando and Rocket, two internet companies, have bombed, French engineering group Spie pulled its €1.2bn listing and today the listing of a Pershing Square vehicle has also sagged on its debut'

5. It may have been Columbus Day but even with the US bond market closed the US equity market ended on a less good note:

'For technical strategists, anxiety about a potential further slide was amplified by the S&P 500 dropping below its 200-day moving average...the S&P 500 closed 1.7 per cent lower at 1874.74, comfortably below its 200-day moving average of 1905.39. Its gains for the year have been cut to 1.4 per cent'

Let's see how the big corporate earnings day tomorrow (Tuesday) goes.
